    Sampling the two-dimensional density of states g(E,M) of a giant magnetic molecule using the Wang-Landau method

    The Wang-Landau method is used to study the magnetic properties of the giant paramagnetic molecule Mo_72Fe_30 in which 30 Fe3+ ions are coupled via antiferromagnetic exchange. The two-dimensional density of states g(E,M) in energy and magnetization space is calculated using a self-adaptive version of the Wang-Landau method. From g(E,M) the magnetization and magnetic susceptibility can be calculated for any temperature and external field.Comment: 5 pages, 9 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.

    Artist Bio: Dan S. Wang is a writer, artist, organizer, and printer who was born in the American Midwest in 1968 to immigrant parents. Dan’s constant concerns are the relationships between art + politics, critical reflection + social action, place + history. His research includes inquiries into the postindustrial cultural politics of the Midwest, letterpress printing as an archaeology of obsolescence, race and difference in the theater of crisis capitalism, and the cultural landscape of postsocialist China. As a print media artist he primarily uses letterpress printing and hand set typography but avails himself of other media as words and letterforms hit their limits.     Statistical mechanics of glass transition in lattice molecule models

    Lattice molecule models are proposed in order to study statistical mechanics of glass transition in finite dimensions. Molecules in the models are represented by hard Wang tiles and their density is controlled by a chemical potential. An infinite series of irregular ground states are constructed theoretically. By defining a glass order parameter as a collection of the overlap with each ground state, a thermodynamic transition to a glass phase is found in a stratified Wang tiles model on a cubic lattice.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figure
